On March 30th, approximately 70 middle school students and 10 teachers competed in a reading competition during their lunch and resource period. Students volunteered and formed teams of five. Each student read two of the ten books that were selected from the "WEMTA Battle of the Books Middle Level 2021-2022" list. The competition consists of four rounds of questions with one question per round from each book. During the competition students were able to take a break and enjoy Subway, chips, and cupcakes. They also each earned a grab bag for competing that consisted of a variety of prizes. The 1st place team also received a free Pizza Hut pizza and appetizer of their choice, $5 gift card to Subway, $5 gift card to Dollar General, and one free admission to the Chippewa Valley Museum. The 2nd place team received a Pizza Hut pizza and appetizer of their choice and a $5 gift card to Dairy Queen. 3rd-5th place earned another grab bag of prizes. The students and teachers all did an amazing job and had a lot of fun. They are hoping the event will take place again next year. The event generated excitement and encouraged reading at the middle school level.
